Engagement photos at The Pearl in San Antonio | Hannah & Wade

Engagement photos at The Pearl in San Antonio

It’s been such a treat looking back at 2019 over the last few weeks, but today I’m excited to share a more recent San Antonio engagement session. It felt so good to get out in May with Hannah and Wade! They have a truly beautiful connection – it was very easy to photograph them as we explored Pearl Brewery.

As it turns out, Pearl is an excellent location for engagement photos! An active brewery for over a hundred years, Pearl transitioned in 2001 to an environmentally friendly hub for some of San Antonio’s best local flavors and traditions. In terms of shooting engagement photos, there are so many stunning green spaces to nestle in, as Hannah and Wade did. I love that the landscaping is sustainable and fresh, but there’s beautiful historic architecture to see as well.

I must mention Courtney Wolf, who put me in touch with this sweet couple. Courtney is the amazing and talented wedding planner for Invision Events, which is based in Atlanta and specializes in destination wedding planning and design. It’s an exceptional company and I really love the fact that Courtney and founder/creative director Julie Bunkley work side by side to create a totally unique experience for each client. They are true artists! Many thanks to Courtney for connecting me with Hannah and Wade.

Hannah’s smile is absolutely contagious. I left this session with a big smile on my face – and I hope you do too, when you see the photos!

Engagement photos at The Pearl in San AntonioI adored Hannah’s white lace dress! It’s no surprise that she has such excellent style, since she owns the online shop Standards Clothing. Her collection ranges from activewear to adorable dresses and uniquely detailed accessories. A very sweet store indeed!

    The Cove Eleuthera Bahamas Wedding

    The Cove Eleuthera Bahamas Wedding

Last July, I was privileged to photograph Stephanie and Matt’s intimate wedding in Eleuthera, The Bahamas. The setting was truly spectacular! But even more wonderful was witnessing how Stephanie and Matt received their guests. Every single person was showered with such incredible love and attention! Stephanie’s parents were especially thrilled to create an unforgettable experience for everyone. They truly went above and beyond!

The setting for this breathtaking Bahamas wedding was The Cove, a secluded resort boasting not one but two white sand beaches. It was my first time shooting there – and I felt grateful for every moment! Most of the guests flew in from England, where Stephanie and Matt live (she is American and he is British). The days were filled with good friends and good company – so much joy and laughter, exploring the beaches and grounds. You could tell everyone was thrilled to be there, together, to celebrate Stephanie and Matt as they joined their lives.

I must mention what a joy it was to work again with Marva Munroe of Chic Bahamas Weddings & Events. I cannot say enough about her – she is the epitome of grace and excellence! Her awards and recommendations speak for themselves, but to collaborate directly with her is a true gift. Her energy is calm and kind, and she is committed to giving her clients a one-of-a-kind experience. I highly recommend a trip to her blog – a beautifully curated resource!

To Stephanie and Matt: may your lives be filled with as much love and joy as the magical weekend you created. And to everyone else: I hope these photos lift you up and take you away to a slice of paradise…

    The Cove Eleuthera Bahamas Wedding

The weekend kicked off with an incredible rehearsal dinner on the beach, under the stars. The way the little golden lights reflected in the turquoise water was mesmerizing!

Both Stephanie and Matt have impeccable style. Stephanie wore a flowing Phillipa Lepley gown and pearl-studded Jimmy Choos!

I love the lush pastel flower arrangements – the blue hydrangeas were a surprising and beautiful touch.

Charlotte Weddings | Charlotte & David

Bridesmaids wearing custom made skirts at the Charlotte Country Club

I always have a wonderful time photographing Charlotte Weddings and this one was no exception. Last June saw me back in this great city for a wedding that still makes me grin almost a year later! Charlotte and David tied the knot at Christ Episcopal Church, with a reception at the gracious Charlotte Country Club. This was just one of those days – those rare days – when everything comes together organically, and every single moment is spent in the joy of joining lives and families. But that’s no surprise, because Charlotte and David showed up wanting to relax and have a blast I don’t think anything could have fazed them!

When I met Charlotte for her bridal session, I knew right away she would be a laid-back, fun bride. She was so excited to wear the same dress that her mother and grandmother did – she told me she had been dreaming of wearing it since she was a child. She also mentioned they planned on having 7 flower girls and ringbearers! It could be a big challenge to get that many tiny people down the aisle, but Charlotte had a plan: to play it by ear and let the kids be themselves. Her desire to include everyone and just let things play out made the day an absolute pleasure. Of course, there was a perfect main timeline for the wedding, but everything flowed beautifully, with room for delightful surprises.

While the bride and groom really set the tone, much of the day’s success is owed to the extremely talented Hall & Webb. It was wonderful to work with them again. I always know that the wedding will be incredible, which makes my job a lot easier and allows me to focus on the photos. I hope I captured the details faithfully – from the stunning lighting (which changed over the course of the evening) to the beautiful silver vases with flower arrangements at the reception. But, most of all, I hope I captured the spirit of this glowing couple and all their dear ones. Enjoy the photos!

I love truly excited couples – their genuine smiles, big laughs, their facial expressions. It’s very moving to me…the best part of my job.

The Hay Adams Weddings | Caitlin & Conor

It’s been over a year since I first wrote about Caitlin and Conor’s engagement session, and I’m delighted to share an update now. I knew right away that collaborating with them and their planner Kaitlin from Cheers Darling Events on their Washington, DC wedding would be a wonderful experience. But I couldn’t have known how truly special the day would end up being, for so many reasons.

Caitlin and Conor decided on three separate event spaces, beginning with the Hay Adams Hotel for getting ready and their First Look. I must mention the history of the Hay Adams, because it is quite unique. This gracious and historic hotel is named for two famous residents: John Hay, the personal secretary of Abraham Lincoln, and Henry Adams, a Harvard professor and the descendent of President John Quincy Adams. In the late 1800s, the elegant homes of these two esteemed men stood side by side, and they were dear friends. Their wives Clara and Marian were also very close. The group called themselves the Five of Hearts (five because their friend Clarence King spent much time with them as well). Together they hosted luminaries from around the world, including Mark Twain, Teddy Roosevelt and Henry James. Just imagine the parties! In the 1920s, the Hay and Adams homes were replaced with the Hay-Adams House, an elegant hotel that preserved many historic details from the time of its namesakes. Over the years this stunning structure has remained an icon in Washington, DC and it’s impossible to overstate how impressive it really is in person. Caitlin and Conor selected The Top of the Hay for their first look – and what a view! Conor certainly seemed like he was on top of the world as he waited for Caitlin to reach him. And when he turned around and saw the beautiful woman about to become his wife, the joy he felt was unmistakable!

From the Hay Adams Hotel, we transitioned to St. Aloysius Catholic Church, which stands on Conor’s high school campus. The church is only open to weddings for alumni, which made the venue extra special for these two. I was so excited to work with wedding planner Kaitlin of Cheers Darling Events. She is calm, organized, and all of her weddings are flawless – and Caitlin and Conor’s was no exception. From the bespoke name card display to the live band, the reception at the Army Navy Country Club was stunning in its details. It was clear that everyone was having a wonderful time celebrating this loving couple!

Finally, a word on the bride herself. Caitlin is a genuinely thoughtful person. She gave personal gifts to many of her loved ones and found a way to make each and every guest feel special. I was blown away when I received a gift from her too: a painting of my dog Ronon. If you read my blog, you know that Ronon is my heart. Caitlin’s gift was the sweetest one I’ve ever received.

Thanks Daniel Guinn for shooting this wedding with me!

Engagement Photos in Philadelphia | Kari & Evan

          Engagement photos in Philadelphia

Right now, I’m especially grateful to be able to look back at the wonderful times I’ve spent with couples over the past year. In the fall of 2019, I had the pleasure of traveling to work with Kari and Evan for their engagement photos in Philadelphia. The day was bright and beautiful, and I treasured getting to spend time with these two – and meeting their sweet baby Norman! Norman has got to be one of the most photogenic Tabbies I’ve ever seen. And his mom and dad clearly love him (and one another) to the moon!

Kari and Evan met via a dating site, and almost immediately Evan knew Kari was for him. He even broke traditional protocol by texting her a mere eight hours after their first date! They shared dinner together soon after – and as Kari says, “the rest is history!” But I have to say, Evan’s proposal is quite special. He wanted it to be unique and memorable – and the winter vacation they had planned in Palm Springs, Florida seemed like the perfect opportunity. Evan used Kari’s birthday of January 1st as an excuse to arrange for a couples’ massage at Eau Resort, followed by dinner for two. What he didn’t mention to Kari was that he had secretly reached out to the resort’s event planner to help coordinate a big surprise! After their massages, Kari and Evan got ready for dinner separately, and when they met up again Evan had to hold his jacket over his arm to conceal the ring box! When they arrived at the restaurant, the hostess knew to escort them to a private cabana overlooking the beach. Evan’s plan was to casually shrug into his jacket as they walked, and then reach for the ring in his pocket…but the box fell out onto the sand! Luckily, Kari kept walking and Evan was able to jump in front of the ring box so she couldn’t see. When Kari reached the cabana, her eyes soon fell on a personalized menu reading “Evan and Kari’s Engagement” – and when she turned around, Evan was down on one knee!

We all need things to look forward to – now more than ever – and Kari and Evan’s wedding is a bright spot for sure. I recently heard from them that they’ve made the difficult decision to postpone their day until 2021. With so much uncertainty in the world, witnessing the strength of their love is both comforting and hopeful. No matter what, their wedding will be wonderful!
